0.4.2: New scoring system and more

September 25, 2026

Why has the scoring system changed?

The old calculation was too generous to new players: a few lucky wins could carry a new account over those who had been playing for years. The number of matches played was not taken into account, and short and long matches were counted equally. There were difficult-to-explain discrepancies between the points gained for winning and the points lost for losing.

How does it work now?

  • Experience counts. A new account's score settles quickly in the first matches; as the number of matches played increases, the score becomes more stable and consistent. An experienced player's score cannot be shaken by a single match.
  • Long matches count more. A long match influences your score more than a short match.
  • Big jumps are over. A single match can no longer influence your score by hundreds; there is a cap on the effect of each match.
  • Fair and transparent. The calculation is based on a method that has been proven over decades on backgammon servers. The higher your opponent's score is compared to yours, the more points you gain by defeating them.
  • Everyone starts from the same score. New accounts start from an average initial score and find their true level as they play.

Why has my score changed? When transitioning to the new system, everyone's score was recalculated once using the new method based on their entire match history. The ranking now truly reflects the matches played: some scores have increased, while others have decreased. This was a one-time adjustment; from now on, your score will only change based on the matches you play.

Other new features in 0.4.2

  • Premium: ad-free gameplay, all board themes, and daily bonus energy. Energy packs are now available in the store.
  • Daily puzzles: level map and puzzle leaderboard; house numbers are displayed on the board in pip counting puzzles.
  • Deeper board: raised center bar and softly shaded pieces; pastel boards have also gained this depth, with the new Pastel Terra theme added alongside. The pieces you collect stay in the tray, with the count displayed on top.
  • Tools tab: match timer, score, dice, and cube for your home board.
  • Match watching: watch your friend's match until the end, see the result; during breaks, the card on the board shows whose break it is and how much time is left.
  • Matching: match settings now show how many players you can match with; while waiting, the search automatically expands.
  • If the connection drops: the match does not immediately end; it pauses first and waits for you to return.
  • Stability: login and opening issues have been resolved, rewarded ads no longer lose their rewards, audio cuts come back automatically, and a notification does not freeze the board in the middle of a match.
  • Languages: achievements, themes, and many other texts are now available in all languages; unfinished translations have been corrected.

Have fun playing!
